FAQ's

I don't like feet, can I just get a deep tissue massage by hand?

Nope.

You can see any licensed massage therapist in Toledo to get a hands on deep tissue massage.  We are just not one of them.  In fact, we don't even put ourselves in the same category. It's like night & day.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that while the average therapists hands touch door handles, money, and phones, our therapists feet have been inside socks/slippers not touching a thing.  It would be physically impossible for us to have any fungus or planters warts on our feet because it would be extremely painful to do what we do.

Check out our client review section here or on our Google page as almost 100% of our clients have never had a barefoot massage until Remedy started offering it in 2016.

How and where did you learn this?

Discipline & Travel.

As you can imagine, not many teach this modality of massage therapy.  It's much different than anything they teach in Massotherapy school.

We use the Center for Barefoot Massage & Sarga Bodywork techniques.  Those who teach these styles are peppered all over the US.

You must be a Licensed Massage Therapist to even apply. After that it's typically a 3 day live intensive course followed by 20 practice sessions and an exam.

These courses typically do not come to you like many others, so we have to travel.  We have traveled from as far as Portland, OR to Durham, NC & Albany, NY to train.

There is not another barefoot massage studio like us in the

tri-state area that we know of. Nowhere near us can you find as highly trained and skilled LMT's but the fact that we have an entire team dedicated to barefoot massage.  This sets us apart from any other studio.

Why do I have to prepay and schedule ahead?

Respecting our time and yours.

Last minute appointments often mean we have to scurry around to be there when you have decided you want in, in an instant.  We are not the type of studio that we are here and waiting.  We work by appointment only, if we have no appointments, we engage in our personal lives.  A respectful 12 hour window gives us enough time to plan our day ahead of time.

The 2nd reason being, in this industry and in most cases, people who want an appointment RIGHT NOW, have ill intent...  Something that we still have to battle in this day and age.  We do not tolerate this.  At Remedy Barefoot Massage Studio, we offer professional, non sensual massage.

This leads to pre-payment. We force all online booked appointments to be prepaid to deter anyone who is looking for something other than what we offer.

We also force prepayment to ensure that you respect both our time and the time we reserved for you.  In our years in the service industry, we have learned that nobody appreciates free.  If you have no financial obligation to come in, and something else comes up, you'll cancel and not think twice.  This is our livelihood.

We hold firm to our 24 hour cancellation policy. Meaning if you cancel within less than 24 hours, we charge you OR we ask that you find a replacement who can receive barefoot massage.  It's that simple.

How often should I get Barefoot Massage?

That depends on you.

Some of our clients come weekly and some quarterly.  It all depends on you and your needs.

We like to tell our clients, to get your first barefoot massage, see how you feel over the next several days or even weeks, and go from there.

The average client probably comes in every 3-4 weeks.

Can you really feel everything with your feet like you can with your hands?

Yes.. and then some.

Just like anything else, it's a skill you build.  Did you know in massage school we were not taught to use our elbows or knuckles? It's just something you pick up to try to gain more pressure, and let us assure you, humans have way more nerve endings (what we use for feeling) on the soles of your feet than you do in your elbows.

In fact, there are more nerve endings per square centimeter in your foot than any other part of our body. That's A LOT of feeling!

Wearing socks and shoes suppresses foot sensitivity.  This is part of the reason we practice so much before we dive in feet first, we have to build up tactile sensation in our feet.

Can I workout after my massage?

Please don't!

At least not within 24 hours.

Not only will you feel extremely relaxed but you may even be a bit sore after an Ashiatsu or Sarga session at Remedy.  You'll be a little less hydrated as well.  Some people feel a little light headed or even just brain foggy.  That's normal!

Take some time to just chill after your session and drink plenty of water (not coffee, an energy drink, or worse.. alcohol!).

Some light movement won't hurt ie; walking or yoga but don't get too strenuous, you could be a little spacey and injure yourself.

Save that for another day.  The day of your massage is for active recovery and rest, not mention the amazing sleep you'll get that evening!
